Terraria

So I’ve been getting into this game called Terreria. I bought it last night and played with a few friends and immediately fell in love with the game. It’s randomly generated (a bit structured as to where the different worlds are), multiplayer, and totally customizable.  Making weapons and items is so much fun and gives action and pacing to an otherwise 2D minecraft clone. I don’t know what’s with me, but I feel like everything is better in 2D. Makes me feel safe I guess.
The gist of the game is as follows: Mine, cut, break, and find things to build your town and continue your journey to…finish the journey….whatever it may be. The game plays just like minecraft down to the night and day mechanic where in the latter zombies come to kill you. You start off just trying to make your own house to protect you from the night invasions, slowly you build up to towns and villages where NPC inhabit your house if it is indeed habitable (can’t forget the chair!!).  I suggest playing this game with your friends because honestly teamwork makes things go a lot faster and journeying feels like Lord of the Rings rather than Metroid.

the potential for this game seems quite unlimited and this something I am usually scared of. But this is one exception since I have friends to spice things up. We played for a solid 4 hours last night, not knowing how to do anything at all. We slowly figured things out and a great sense of achievement was felt when we finally got our first NPC to live in our meagerly built house. I was estatic; especially after I destroy our old house with three "misplaced" bombs. Long story.

Anyway, I can forsee this game taking up waaay too much time and I just got ahold of L.A. Noire. I played a few hours of that as well and it seems to be shaping up to be an awesome adventure. I actually feel like a detective, gathering evidence and the questioning is extremely fun. I love the effort put forth by rockstar to revive a long-since-dead genre of video games.

I'm trying to finish up games so I can actually start reviewing current games, but with a 40 hour work week, I can't seem to finish games fast enough. Maybe I'll just keep analzying games rather than just trying to review them. It seems to be more productive for me and much easier as well. We'll see, this blog is still in its infancy.
