Hype.
Final Fantasy 15 Hype
Justice League Hype
Dr. Strange Hype
Suicide Squad...Hype?
Wonder Woman Hype
Harry Potter/Pokemon Go Hype (I mean seriously that's what this is)
Hype marketing is huge these days. There have been so many more trailers leading up the movies and it's relentless. It seems like movies post production phases are so much longer that the marketing department has to spend months and months creating trailers to make sure the movie never leaves the audiences minds.
There are a lot of movies presented this year at Comic-con that have 2017 dates. 2016 is barely halfway over and we're greeted with projects that will once again be marketing to us at next year's Comic-Con. I think it's too much. Some of the reveals are cool but by the time they are actually released in theaters, the trailers released will give everything away.
See, since Hollywood has to keep our minds busy for so long, they have to slowly keep releasing more and more material to keep us interested. I feel like this method of reveal leave too little to the viewers imagination. The wonder of movies should be instilled, not beat you over the head with it. I always felt like it would be better for movie studios to give us less of a gap between when a movie is announced and when a movie is released. Less money is spent marketing and the viewers are also happy to know that most of the movie isn't spoiled for them.
I was very excited for Suicide Squad, initially. But now I am not so sure. It seems the more I am presented with it, the less I feel good about it. I mean the acting is on point and the first trailer set to Bohemian Rhapsody got me really excited. But all this marketing and weird bright neon coloring is bothering me. It's weird to tease the Joker, and then make it seem like he's the bad guy. Then you realize he isn't the bad guy in the third trailer.
But it's not all bad. I understand that hype's purpose is to make sure everyone is pumped to see whatever show or movie or game is being released. I just wish it wasn't done so far in advanced or so often.
But hey, we're getting a Luke Cage TV show. Trailer has me so hyped, I wish I knew more about the character.
Great post. Parking at Heathrow Terminal 5
