The Best Little Thing On The Playstation 4
I always had a theory that the gaming industry grew up with kids of the 90's. Games have become more complicated, complex, and graphically overwhelming that I don't know if kids could get into these games. I've always felt like the kids who grew up on the Atari or the Nintendo Entertainment System were a unique generation. Video games come natural to us. I find it interesting how it takes my older siblings and younger kids to grasps certain video game controls and mechanics while it only takes my friends and I a few hours to really get the hang of it.
The problem is that at some point, for 90's kids, we grew up. We graduated college and got jobs. Some of us are married and some of us have kids. We rarely have time to have long sessions of gaming that we used to have back in the days. Yet for some reason, games are getting more and more content and are getting longer and longer to complete.
But I must commend Sony for implementing the one feature I love about it. The rest mode feature. The rest mode feature allows the player to put the PlayStation 4 into a power save mode but saves the exact frame your game is paused on. This works on cut-scenes or in game battles or anything. The only thing it doesn't pause is any online multiplayer modes. When you want to continue, you just start the console back up and you can pick up exactly where you left off!
No need to keep going until save points. No need to ignore my wife's requests for help in the kitchen. No need to ignore my mother's phone calls! But the biggest benefit is to just stop playing and continue playing whenever I want. This means I can game for 30 minutes at a time without having to worry of losing progress.
I feel like most people are worrying about the wrong things in terms of video game technology advancements. Larger worlds and better graphics definitely appeal to the kid gamer in me. But features like rest mode help let the kid gamer get his share while the adult me can still keep a somewhat normal life.
I'll be coming back with another comic to review in a short while. Thanks for reading!
