Introduction
"Hello World!"
(I hope a few people get this joke)
For the most part, many of you won't. Let me formally welcome anyone and everyone to my blog. This is No Lives Left. A blog about video gaming in terms of reviews, opinions, and random thoughts. The desire to do so was based on impulse about a few days ago. I really, really, really love video games ever since I was three years old playing duck hunt with my brother. I could never get away from it. And as I kept playing video games, I kind of threw myself into the realm of virtual reality. The ideas, the graphics, the interactivity; all of these things really kept me glued to the screen for so many years. The fact is, video games are what you make of them. They obviously can turn into an obsession (*ahem* I am in full control!) and ruin your life. The games themselves can equally be just as bad and ruin your life (been there, done that). If you don't choose wisely, video games can also be a huge waste of time (Playing 85 hours worth of Phantasy Star Online only realizing there was no "online" really was a waste of time). But on the upside, video games can be an amazing tool to learn life lessons, to appreciate art, and all the while being constantly entertained.
So I want to put my two cents out. I don't have much in terms of technical experience, but I do much about video games. I've played every type of game out there from real time strategy to first person shooter to adventure to role playing. I've observed the change in video games, familiarized myself with the history of consoles. I used to be a Nintendo fanboy until recently when I bought a Playstation 3. Now I feel free to choose what I want to play and not feel so constricted in one, very small domain. I used to try and defend Nintendo choices no matter what; now I feel like I can critique anything and everything. Hence this blog.
There is more, probably, that I haven't told, but I think it will come out throughout this blog. But for now, I will let you know what will be on this blog. There are three categories: Reviews (done in a most likely hilarious and whimsical fashion), Discussions on the Video Game Industry, and lastly, Ramblings. I will mostly ramble and discuss a lot. I will try to articulate and formulate my arguments as much as possible in my discussions, but ramblings will be more of rant to vent frustrations and such. I hopefully going to try and pour in a good amount of research on my discussions. I don't know if I will necessarily post all the links I use, but I will post many of them. I believe in the academic way of writing: Give your opinion but support with evidence. There is no point in having an opinion without backing it up. Oh, by the way, in terms of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, I will make sure to proofread from here on out. This should be as professional (but fun!) as possible. I use a lot of parentheses in my writing (I mean a lot (see?)). So get used to it.
Well then sit back, and enjoy the show. It's not going to be a super bumpy ride, but sure will be an interesting. I'll see you on the other side. What can you expect next time a post? I can already tell you the title Good Games and Good Sequels: Preparation is Key. Take care , good luck, and may you all be rightly guided.
Forgive me for my wrongs,
Suleyman Kazmi
